Kompong Phluk, a floating village mounted above the banks of the Tonle-Sap-Great Lake and is home to different families eking out their living on what is considered one of the richest inland-fisheries in the world. When you visit you’ll get the best insight into the fascinating lifestyle of the people whose livelihood entirely depends upon the flow and ebb of the Tonle Sap Lake.
When you arrive at this floating village, you can visit the restaurants, shops and schools, all of which are moored above the Tonle Sap Lake. You can also visit the pagoda and meet the local monks, then board a small oar-boat for a tour to the inundated forest. On your way to Tonle Sap, you’ll get a chance to see the boat peoples village, belonging to their own ethnic group in Cambodia many of the people that live on the water are of Vietnamese origin.
The entirely flooded-forest around Kompong Phluk is just fascinating. You’ll be amazed by the sights of fishermen and their families fishing using all types of home-made floatation devices from plastic bucket to polystyrene squid rafts between the sunken trees. To get to the Tonle Sap Lake from Siem Reap city, by our car or Tuk-Tuk will take you about 30 minutes then a boat trip to Kompong Phluk village will take about 1h 30 minutes.
